Overview
This Extenuating Circumstances policy explains how cancellations are handled with NookRental. Cancellations may be allowed if there are unforeseen events that are beyond the guests or host control after a booking and if these circumstances make it impossible, impractical, or illegal to complete the reservation.
If a guest or host is allowed to cancel due to extenuating circumstances, it will take precedence over the standard cancellation policy. Guest that are impacted by a cancellation due to these circumstances can expect a partial or full refund after NookRental have done a full review of the situation. Host that are impacted by these circumstances can cancel WITHOUT any adverse consequences. Depending on the circumstances, the host’s calendar may be blocked for the dates of the cancelled reservation.
What events are covered
The term “Unforeseen Events” refers to the following situations that may occur after a booking. That was not present prior to booking and it legally prohibits or prevents the completion of the booking. The following are considered unforeseen events that would be covered:
- Travel restrictions made by a government agencies. Travel restrictions imposed by a governmental agency that prevent or prohibit traveling to, staying at, or returning from the location of the booking. Including:

- Changes made by governments to travel requirements. Unexpected changes made to visa or passport requirements imposed by a governmental agency that prevent travel to the destination. This does not include personal circumstances relating to a guest’s authorization to travel such as lost or expired travel documents.
- Declared emergencies, pandemics and epidemics. Government declared local or national emergencies, pandemics, epidemics, and public health emergencies. This does not include endemic diseases associated with certain areas. This does not include non-binding travel advisories and similar government guidance.
- Military actions and other hostilities. Acts of war, hostilities, invasions, civil war, terrorism, explosions, bombings, rebellions, riots, insurrection, civil disorder, and civil unrest.
- Natural disasters. Natural disasters, acts of God, large-scale outages of essential utilities, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and other severe and abnormal weather events. This does not include weather conditions that can be foreseen by observing weather reports for the area of your booking.
What is not covered
Everything else. This Policy only allows for cancellations for the Events described above. Everything else is excluded. Any undefined circumstances must be disclosed to NookRental with documentation. It will be reviewed on a case-by-case bases and decided within 24 to 48 hours of the disclosure. Guest who encounter an undefined extenuating circumstances may be entitled for a refund and it will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

If we notify you or publish information confirming that this Policy applies to your reservation, please follow the instructions for cancellation that we provide. If you believe this Policy applies to your reservation, but we have not notified you or published information about the EVENT, please click this link contact us and send us some information regarding the circumstances and requesting a cancellation your reservation.
In all cases, you should be prepared to provide documentation that shows how the EVENT has impacted you or your reservation. In all situations NookRental will work with both the hosts and guest to gather information to make a decision that will be fair to all parties involved. Any parties involved must contact NookRental before the commencement of the reservation, unless the EVENT occurs during the reservation, in which case we will review the situation and prorate any necessary refunds to be paid. NookRental reserves the right to deny any claim that does not have supporting documentation for a an extenuating or unforeseen circumstance.
